AI Should Belong To Everyone

It probably won't happen, but here’s my opinion anyway.

AI should be declared the common property of all human beings on Earth… Here’s why.

All AI does is create derivative works based on the given data.

Most big AI platforms get their dataset by scraping the web and accepting user input.

This means that if a body of work exists somewhere out there on the web, then AI is probably taking influence from it in some sense, even if that data is intentionally excluded from the data set.

Once you realize how Machine Learning works, there is only one conclusion:

AI is the culmination of all human creation

AI works by scraping a bunch of public data (which is available to everyone) and using that data to train its algorithms to perform various tasks. The companies that own the AIs then hoard that algorithm to use it for profit. This is why I think any company that would use AI to (even partially) replace human workers should be somehow forced to give that saved money back to the community they exploited.

Is it another form of exploitation without consent? (yes.)

Should a few early adopters be allowed to reap all the benefits (while destroying job markets, no less) when their output is ultimately derivative of other people’s hard work?

Some of you may say yes

I challenge you to keep that attitude when your job gets replaced.
